Our organization provides Administrative Support to asylum seekers through a program established by Immigrants Community Integration (I.C.I). The aim is to assist these immigrants in overcoming obstacles that hinder their compliance with USCIS, DOJ, and DHS/ICE regulations. This effort is crucial in preventing improper assistance and exploitation. We offer referrals to pro bono legal aid organizations within Maine and Boston. Furthermore, we are actively pursuing partnerships with law firms to provide aid to those who fail to access free legal services, guaranteeing that asylum seekers have the essential legal support until they are in a position to hire an attorney. 

At COCOMAINE's office, we offer a secure environment for families and individuals who are scheduled for the Master Calendar Hearing or the Individual Hearing at the Immigration Court. This preliminary hearing is vital for asylum seekers to present their case and explain why they should not be removed (deported) from the United States. To alleviate the anxiety associated with this procedure, we provide a comforting setting equipped with WebEx  and internet access through our computer devices.

 We assist immigrant families in securing affordable housing and applying for DHHS benefits, promoting responsible use of these benefits. We support job seekers through the application and onboarding processes. Additionally, we offer cultural brokerage services for non-English speakers. When shelters are at capacity, we arrange temporary accommodation for the first two nights in a hotel or with a community member's extra living space, if available. 

We believe that community engagement is key to building strong, resilient neighborhoods. We organize and sponsor a variety of events and activities that bring people together and promote a sense of belonging.
